My name is Bryan Fahndrich - owner, operator, and head tanner at Precision Tanning. With more than a decade of hands-on experience and years of traveling the country learning from the industry’s most skilled tanners, I have collectively developed the skills, techniques, and passion needed to produce the highest quality shaves and competition level hides. WET TANNING
Precision Tanning understands wet tanning varies significantly from tannery to tannery. Unfortunately, this means many of the leading tanneries simply soak, drain, and ship your hide increasing the amount of shrinkage and leading to hair slip, bacteria growth, and increased cost to their customers. At Precision Tanning, we don’t skip steps. Instead, we will examine your hide exclusively and customize our tanning process to fit your hide’s needs. From using the industry's best quality chemicals to finishing the hide with oil, we take every precaution necessary to ensure quality results every time.
DRY TANNING
At Precision Tanning, years of experience have helped us become experts on being able to determine which hides should not be wet tanned. As a result, we offer a specialized process that allows us to effectively coat each fiber of your hide throughout the entire thickness of its skin. This means taxidermists will spend less mounting your hide by reducing the amount of time it takes to re-sculpt muscle structure. More importantly, when your hide completely dries, it will be nearly as soft as when it was freshly tanned.
FINE FLESHING
A key component to tanning any hide well, many professionals will tell you they can flesh a hide but we at Precision Tanning will tell you we're masters at it. Recognizing that each hide is unique combined with our meticulous hands on approach means Precision Tanning's fine fleshing and shaving services offer superior results compared to the competition.
SALTING
Often an undervalued step in the tanning process, salting is critical to preserve your hide, stop hair loss, and reduce moisture to eliminate the potential for bacteria growth on your hide. Precision Tanning pays strict attention to detail making sure your hide is properly inspected and prepared prior to the salt application. Once the hide meets our standards, your hide will undergo a multi-day application process where fine grain, non-iodized salt is applied and reapplied. With our equipment and expertise, we will ensure a properly salted hide with the ideal moisture balance.
